Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, in the state of Arizona. It is a suburb located 20 miles east of Phoenix. Mesa is the 36th largest city in the United States by population. The Mesa Police Department consists of a diverse group of professionals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Record Low Crime Livability

In 2018, overall Total Part 1 crimes dropped 6.9% from 2017 to 2018, the lowest level ever recorded in Mesa. As the 36th largest city in the country, Mesa continues to be one of the safest large cities in the United States. Our personnel are committed to community interaction through various community programs, events, meetings and forums to facilitate interaction with our residents and build relationships outside of a crisis environment.

State-of-the-Art Our Facility

The Mesa Police Department has a 45-acre state of the art public training facility which includes a 14-acre asphalt driving track, 11 separate classrooms, and a 364-seat auditorium. A firearm range that encompasses 16 acres and includes an on-site armory, a live fire house, a 200-meter rifle range, a 25-station automated turning target qualification range, two additional ranges, and the M.I.L.O. automated firearms system.

State-of-the-Art Forensic Services Laboratory

State of the art Forensic Services laboratory which has been an accredited lab since 2001. The Forensic Services laboratory was established in 1980 with one employee who examined controlled substances and today has over 70 employees in 10 different forensic units. The new Forensic Services building was completed in August 2008 allowing for efficient and effective space to meet the City’s needs and is filled with modern instrumentation.

State-of-the-Art Fusion Center

The East Valley Gang & Criminal Information Fusion Center was established in 2007 and is housed at the Mesa Police headquarters building. Through the efforts of the Fusion Center, criminal justice information can be exchanged and actionable intelligence can be shared to enhance crime fighting efforts within the East Valley law enforcement community.

State-of-the-Art Aviation Unit

Mesa Police Department houses their own Aviation Unit at Falcon Field Airport. It consists of full-time helicopter pilots, who are also proficient Tactical Flight Officers, part-time Tactical Flight Officers (all of whom are Mesa Police officers), mechanics and one civilian Aviation Administrator. Six of the Aviation Section's helicopter pilots are also licensed fixed-wing pilots. Both rotor- and fixed-wing programs are continuously being improved with safety and efficiency in mind.
